The Battaglia Foundry Sculpture Prize is an annual award established with the aim of promoting the use of bronze and the ancient lost-wax casting process in contemporary art practices, addressed to young international artists.


Fonderia Artistica Battaglia, historical foundry established in Milan in 1913, is both founder and promoter of the Prize.

The shortlisted artists were chosen by an International Selection Committee - Alexandra Baudelot (Co-director of Les Laboratoires d'Aubervilliers), Eva Birkenstock (Director of the Kunstverein für die Rheinlande and Westfalen, Düsseldorf and Curator of the independent performance project of LISTE Art Fair Basel), Vittorio Calabrese (Director of Magazzino Italian Art and of the Olnick Spanu Collection), Saim Demircan (Curator and Writer), Nikola Dietrich (Director of Kölnischer Kunstverein, Cologne), João Mourão and Luis Silva (Co-directors of the Kunsthalle Lissabon), Simone Menegoi (Curator and Writer), Anne-Claire Schmitz (Founding director and Curator of La Loge Brussels), Fabian Schöneich (Curator), Stefano Vittorini (Co-founder of Kabul Magazineand Independent Curator).

The Prize is judged by a distinguished Jury - Camilla Bonzanigo (Culture and Development at Fonderia Artistica Battaglia), Stefano Collicelli Cagol (Curator at Quadriennale of Rome), Michelle Cotton (Director of Bonner Kunstverein), Eva Fabbris (Curator at Fondazione Prada), Luigi Fassi (Artistic Director of MAN - Museo Arte Nuoro), Roos Gortzak (Director of Vleeshal in Middleburg), Thomas Thiel (Director of Bielefelder Kunstverein).

The winner will be announced in September 2018.

The Prize consists of a boursary and residency period at Fonderia Artistica Battaglia to take place between October and December 2018. The winner will thus be able to create the work proposed in close cooperation with the foundry which will provide the techinical consultancy necessary during the entire process.


The winning work will be officialy presented to the public in Milan, during the Miart Art Fair 2019.
